otherwise specified.Job Description SummaryThis position supports a
federally funded human subjects research trial investigating the
impact of a remotely delivered physical activity and healthy eating
intervention for older adults with chronic pain. The primary
responsibilities of this position relate to implementing,
coordinating, and administering remote human subjects research data
collection measures, to include but not limited to psychological
and pain-related questionnaire data collection, physical function
evaluations, physical activity monitoring, and other related tasks.
This may involve preparing testing kits and sending to research
participants via post. Also, may assist a study interventionist in
the sourcing, setting up, and distributing technologies such as
iPads, bodyweight scales, and activity monitors used by study
participants. Finally, may participate in planning and implementing
study recruitment activities and in participant eligibility
screening/determination. Interaction with study participants is
substantial, however additional responsibilities such as protocol
development, adverse event management and reporting, and Data and
Safety Monitoring Board (DSMB) reporting may be required. Interacts
with study subjects, other departmental or University staff, study
project manager, and Principal Investigator (PI); may also interact
with external stakeholders such as members of a community advisory
board on behalf of PI and employ independent decision-making with
regards to implementation of study protocols, as appropriate.
Position is grant-funded (4.5 yrs) and subject to annual renewal by
sponsor.Job DescriptionEssential Functions:
- In collaboration with the study project manager and PI, will
coordinate delivery of testing materials to study participants,
conduct of remote testing procedures (which occur via phone and
video conference), and return of testing materials.
- In compliance with study protocols, collects, enters/downloads,
transforms, cleans, and/or manages human subjects research data.
Exercises judgment to revise or adapt protocols as required.
- In collaboration with the study project manager and PI, may
support recruitment plans and assist in the conduct eligibility
pre-screening via telephone or video conference interviews.
- At discretion of project manager and/or PI, may monitor subject
compliance with study data collection protocols and prepare
individual progress reports for participants.
- May organize, compile, and enter study data into web-based data
entry application(s) and perform data verification and "cleaning"
functions.Other Functions:
- May oversee work of student workers.Performs planning,
organizing, or administrative functions in support of and necessary
to the successful completion of study protocol(s).
- Trains new personnel as neededRequired Education, Knowledge,
Skills, Abilities:
- Bachelor's degree in Health & Exercise Science, Exercise
Physiology, or related field, Master's degree preferred. Prior
human subjects research experience preferred. NIH-approved training
in the protection of human subjects required within three months of
hire.
- Comfortable with technology.
- General knowledge of human subjects research procedures and
practices.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to foster
relationships with individuals who have diverse educational and
socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Proficiency with word processing software (preferably Word) and
spreadsheet applications; familiarity with database applications
and statistical software.Accountabilities: Responsible for own
work. May oversee work of student employees, volunteers, and/or
interns. May exercise independent judgment in working and
collaborating with personnel from Wake Forest School of Medicine /
Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.Physical Requirements:1. Ability
to lift objects weighing 25# occasionally2. Ability to bend, stoop,
grasp, and reach3. Not exposed to adverse environmental conditions;
work is performed in indoor settings with climate control4. Able to
complete work at a computerEnvironmental Conditions: Work is
performed primarily inside under controlled environmental
conditions and without exposure to adverse cold/heat conditions,
